Hurricane Helene Recovery Resources
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, the North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness has compiled a short list of regional, long-term resources that support mental and emotional health, provide general aid, and protect against scams/fraud.
We’ve also created the Helene Recovery Support: Trauma-Informed Guide to Older Adult Wellness Calls and Checks guide. This mini-guide of best practices for providing trauma-informed support through wellness checks in person or by phone. It includes sample questions, assessment guides, and rapid reset practices that could be useful - for any and all of us when we feel activated or triggered.

Social Isolation
According to the AARP Foundation, more than 8,000,000 adults aged 50 and older are affected by social isolation in the United States. Social isolation is an objective lack of meaningful and sustained communication.
Life events such as retirement, death of loved ones, and decline in mental and physical health make it more difficult for older adults to connect with people socially. Without social support, isolated older adults are more vulnerable as they go through these stressful life events and can be even more negatively affected by them.
Don't let social isolation hold you back – begin today and start embracing the power of connection!
